As a Principal Systems Engineer at ARRIS you will work with a variety of technologies and cutting-edge products. You will analyze, design, develop, and maintain software tools for the ARRIS Assurance Solutions business unit. You will work closely with the product development team to deploy and operate product releases in the cloud for dev/test, demos, and interoperability studies. You will also develop s/w content to drive the market and sales of our core product lines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with product management to clarify requirements and review configuration design proposals to meet market needs
  • Contributes to organization culture, disciplines, process & tools
  • Liaises at high level with customers, suppliers, and partners
  • Creates work breakdown and estimates for new projects
  • Review work of peers and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and develop peers
  • Ensure quality of the system through collaboration with quality assurance engineers to enable thorough system testing
  • Design and configure demonstration systems to support customer engagements and trade shows
  • Design and develop automation tools

Required Skills:

  • Experience with various automated installation and s/w deployment frameworks such as Jenkins or Docker
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as JavaScript and Python
  • Experience with XML, JSON, REST, SOAP
  • Understanding and experience working with certificates and SSL
  • Able to apply troubleshooting logic to complex problems including networking, application servers, OSS/BSS, protocols, databases, etc. and the mixture of these
  • Experience setting up and maintaining databases
  • Working knowledge of management protocols, e.g. SNMP, TR-069, USP
  • Experience in setting up and running clustered web applications in virtual and cloud hosted environments (private cloud, AWS or AZURE)
  • Deep understanding of major virtualization platforms (ESXi, XEN)
  • Proficient with software development build procedures and technologies
  • Strong understanding of how Java Enterprise applications work. Including, how to configure, monitor and troubleshoot
  • Excellent verbal and written communications with experience in customer facing engagements

Desired Skills:

  • Prior experience in Lean/Agile development experience
  • Experience with network programming, including sockets, TCP/IP, UDP and related networking protocols
  • Understanding of DevOps style of product implementation as well as CI/CD methodologies
  • Understanding of cloud scalability
  • Familiarity with the following protocols and technologies beneficial
    • Database Management – Oracle, Postgres, SQL, Apache Cassandra
    • Broadband Standards such as TR-069, TR-098, TR-104
    • Working Knowledge of SNMP
    • Experience with Telco/Cable CPE interoperability testing


  • BSCS or BSEE required; MSCS preferred or equivalent experience
  • Requires 10+ years of work experience in technology fields
